Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve enjoyed getting my MCP updates in your inbox and via Leaflet these past few months!

When I set out to “write about MCP” I had several intended goals:

  • Make some quick introductory primers for my developer friends/network to introduce them to the Model Context Protocol

  • Hold myself accountable to writing on a self-imposed schedule and publishing with a deadline of every other Friday.

  • Publish on Leaflet.pub and test out subs.blue, my experimental ATproto subscriptions service (read more about that here)

Progress Report

Over the past 3 months, I’ve produced content that I hope has illuminated your understanding of the Model Context Protocol, how it works, and how it is changing the future of integrations and APIs for agents.

MCP Posts Recap

If you missed any posts in the series, here’s a quick recap with handy links for sharing.

#1 What devs should know about MCP? Explained what MCP server, clients, and hosts are; as well as why we need a protocol to standardize tools for agents.

#2 Remote MCP for Docs vs URL Search in Prompt described how a MCP server for documentation can improve Retrieval Augmented Generation queries by “pre-processing” source material to make results more accurate

#3 MCP security vulnerabilities devs should know, highlighted the recent vulnerabilities and breaches that have occurred and outlined steps that MCP devs and users can take to protect themselves.

#4 A Calculator Can’t Lie To You About Math compared text generation to regurgitation, and discussed the issue of hallucinations including strategies to keep LLMs agents from lying to you.

#5 Discover & Deploy MCP Servers shared tools and resources for various MCP server listing registries so that you can find your next favorite server, or list your own.

Feedback, please may I have some more…

While researching and producing this series has been fun, it feels a little bit like I’ve been doing it in a vacuum. Leaflet.pub doesn’t support comments on posts, so if I could go back in time and start over, I would add some kind of commenting on my own site with a call to action to ask readers to leave feedback.

Do you have thoughts about this series that you’d like to share? Please drop them to me in an email, text, or DM, whichever method is most convenient for you!

Time for a pause

At this point I’ve achieved my initial set of goals, and I will be pausing writing this MCP series to focus on other projects. Someday, I may start this writing assignment up again, and if so no action will be required on your part if you remain a subscriber. Until then, you will no longer be receiving emails from me every other week or seeing new posts on Leaflet.

I have packaged all 5 posts up into a downloadable and shareable PDF document for reference. Please feel free to grab a copy from CoastWeb.dev to share with friends or colleagues.
